One Punch Man Summary Volume 2 (Chapters 9 – 15.6)

Chapter 9: House of Evolution

We learn about Dr. Genus, a brilliant yet twisted scientist who despises humanity’s limitations.

As a child, he saw others as “stupid animals,” and in his pursuit of perfection, he restored his youth at 70 and built the House of Evolution—a lab filled with clones of himself.

Meanwhile, Saitama and Genos grow impatient with the Armored Gorilla’s long-winded explanations, wanting only the main points.

The gorilla reveals Dr. Genus’s interest in Saitama’s power, prompting Saitama and Genos to plan an attack.

However, Saitama delays it for bargain day, leaving Genos to interrogate the gorilla further.

In the lab, Dr. Genus is horrified that his creations were defeated.

He considers deploying his ultimate weapon, Carnage Kabuto, a monstrous figure with rhinoceros beetle-like features and immense power.

Genos and Saitama soon arrive, and Genos unleashes a powerful energy blast that obliterates the lab’s entrance.

As they descend into the lab’s underground passage, they encounter Carnage Kabuto, who is prepared to face them on Dr. Genus’s orders.

With Dr. Genus watching anxiously, Carnage Kabuto stands ready, mocking the two heroes and preparing for an intense showdown.

Chapter 10: Modern Art

Saitama and Genos face Carnage Kabuto, Dr. Genus’s deadliest creation, in a fight for survival.

The chapter opens with Carnage Kabuto making an intimidating entrance, throwing Genos against the wall and engaging him in a powerful brawl.

Genos retaliates with a barrage of punches, but Carnage Kabuto easily counters, delivering a brutal blow that leaves Genos injured and unconscious.

Saitama, unfazed, steps up to face Carnage Kabuto. The monster initially mocks Saitama, underestimating his power.

However, as Saitama approaches, his calm and somewhat sinister aura intimidates Carnage Kabuto, who unexpectedly backs away, much to Dr. Genus’s shock.

Saitama’s relaxed demeanor leaves both the scientist and the monster curious and slightly terrified.

The chapter closes with Carnage Kabuto, desperate to know the secret of Saitama’s power, while Saitama finally decides to reveal his “training routine” to the stunned onlookers, including Genos, Dr. Genus, and Carnage Kabuto.

Carnage Kabuto smashes Genos on the wall while proceeding to attack Saitama.

Chapter 11: The Secret to Strength

Anticipation hung heavy in the air as Carnage Kabuto, muscles bulging and horns lengthening, prepared to unleash his full might.

Yet, before the first blow landed, Saitama, in a moment of surprising candor, decided to reveal the secret of his unmatched power.

“One hundred push-ups. One hundred sit-ups. One hundred squats. And run ten kilometers. EVERY DAY!!!”

The revelation was met with disbelief!

Genos fumes and feels his master is mocking him, while Carnage Kabuto, consumed by rage, transforms into an even more monstrous form using his “Carnage Mode.”

With Carnage Mode, Carnage Kabuto will be rampaging for seven days non-stop!

The ensuing battle was a spectacle of brute force, Carnage Kabuto’s relentless attacks smashing against Saitama’s unyielding defense.

Yet, Saitama remained strangely detached, his mind preoccupied with the ticking clock.  Bargain day was slipping away, and with it, the chance to snag those amazing deals.

Driven by a hero’s most primal urge – the need for discounted groceries – Saitama, with a worried glance at his watch, unleashed a single, decisive blow.

A right uppercut, swift and brutal, obliterated Carnage Kabuto, leaving behind only stunned silence.

Saitama, kneeling amidst the wreckage, lamented his lost opportunity – the supermarket sales would be over by now.

Dr. Genus resigns from being a scientist.

Chapter 12: The Paradisers

In this chapter, the focus shifts from the intense battles to a new group of characters known as the Paradisers, led by the bald Hammerhead

They are a band of individuals who reject societal norms and refuse to work, creating chaos in the city.

As they march towards Zeniru’s House, their antics draw the attention of the military and heroes alike.

Their crusade began with a series of attacks, targeting buildings they believed belonged to the wealthy elite.

However, their reliance on a poorly drawn map led to the destruction of several wrong targets.

Mumen Rider, a hero on a bike, attempts to confront the Paradisers but is quickly overpowered, highlighting the disparity between their ideals and the reality of heroism.

Meanwhile, Saitama wakes up from a dream about Rock-Paper-Scissors, only to find himself increasingly anxious about the Paradisers’ bald appearance.

His eyes widened in horror – these villains were bald! Were they trying to tarnish the reputation of bald heroes everywhere?

As he dons his hero costume, he prepares to face this new threat, driven by a mix of irritation and curiosity.

He had to stop these imposters before they further sullied the good name of baldness.

The chapter captures the absurdity of Saitama’s world, where serious threats are often met with humor and nonchalance.

Chapter 13: Speed

In One Punch Man Chapter 13, “Speed,” Speed-O-Sound Sonic confronts the Paradisers.

Sonic, a swift and lethal assassin, crouches and unsheathes his katana, ready for battle. The Paradisers charge, but Sonic remains calm.

In a flash, red liquid spurts from their necks as they fall one by one. Hammerhead, watching in shock, becomes enraged as Sonic’s attack continues effortlessly.

Hammerhead tries to shield his neck, reacting with anger. He slams his fists into the ground, causing rocks to fly everywhere, then hurls a massive boulder toward Sonic.

The boulder crashes into a building in the city, surprising King, a bystander caught off guard. Sonic, now dodging debris, grins, evading each strike with ease.

As the chaos ensues, Hammerhead uproots a tree, thinking he’s cornered Sonic. He slams it down, believing he has won, only to feel a kunai strike his head.

Sonic, calling in his victory, suddenly notices Hammerhead has slipped away, escaping in the chaos.

Moments later, Hammerhead, battered but alive, encounters Saitama, walking alone in the forest, unaware of the danger ahead.

Chapter 14: I Don’t Know You

Saitama strolls through the forest, looking aimlessly for the elusive Paradisers. Hammerhead, trying to escape after his earlier fight with Sonic, runs straight into Saitama.

Thinking he’s a threat, Hammerhead punches Saitama with all his strength—only to find his punch does nothing.

Saitama looks annoyed, while Hammerhead, enraged and desperate, activates his battle suit to the maximum and grows more muscular.

Hammerhead launches into a spin attack, wildly swinging at Saitama, who effortlessly dodges.

Finally, Saitama grabs Hammerhead’s hands mid-spin, stopping him instantly, then destroys his suit with a single punch. Hammerhead, now defenseless and naked, flees in fear.

As Saitama continues his walk, Speed-O-Sound Sonic appears, mistaking Saitama for a Paradiser ally.

Sonic attacks, hurling a kunai, but Saitama casually catches it. Sonic escalates, drawing his blade, only for Saitama to catch and snap it in half.

Saitama tries to explain he’s not with the Paradisers, but Sonic refuses to listen, grinning menacingly.

Meanwhile, a terrified, naked Hammerhead hides in the woods, trembling as two ominous robots approach him.

Hammerhead angrily throws a punch at Saitama who casually stands before him.

Chapter 15: Fun and Work

Speed-O-Sound Sonic confronts Saitama, dashing toward him with a menacing grin, and his attacks breaking the sound barrier.

Sonic unleashes his “Wind Blade Kick,” but he is stunned that Saitama can track his supersonic movements.

However, in a comedic twist, Saitama accidentally lands a painful hit on Sonic’s groin, leaving Sonic in agony, trembling with rage and humiliation.

Sonic, though wounded, makes a dramatic retreat, vowing revenge, while Saitama appears unfazed, almost disappointed by the encounter.

Back at Saitama’s apartment, Genos and Saitama discuss his hero status.

Saitama grows increasingly frustrated, realizing no one recognizes him despite years of heroic efforts.

Genos, flipping through the news, mentions that Mumen Rider is credited with defeating the Paradisers, sparking more irritation in Saitama.

Genos then asks if Saitama is listed in the Hero Registry, and Saitama, looking dumbfounded, admits he didn’t know it existed.

Seeing an opportunity, Saitama suggests they both register as heroes, and Genos eagerly accepts, declaring himself Saitama’s disciple.

Finally, Saitama looks pleased, hoping that official registration might solve his recognition problem.

Saitama hits Sonic in his nuts.

Chapter 15.6: Brushing Up

A younger Saitama, still with hair, receives thanks from a grandma after defeating a monster with a sunflower head.

He’s in the midst of his training journey, pushing through intense routines, like push-ups on Day 300, jogging around the city, and enduring the pain that accompanies his growth.

During a jog, Saitama saves a child and their dog from a speeding car, which crashes in his wake.

Just as he thinks it’s over, a Threat Level Tiger monster named “Incarnation of Electric Light String” appears—a boxer-like creature with an electric aura.

Saitama doing push-ups in his 300th day of training.

Saitama attempts to attack but is countered, taking blows that send him crashing into a bus and a wall.

However, Saitama rises, his face taking on a newfound determination and glimmer. With one punch, he demolishes the Electric Light String, marking a turning point as he realizes the true power of his training.

The next scenes show him fully bald, dressed in his hero suit, effortlessly defeating a dinosaur-sized monster in one punch.

The transformation is complete: Saitama, now the unstoppable hero, stands ready for any challenge while Genos watches in admiration, sipping tea.
